Run Rabbit Run

Type: Kids, Parlor, Stage

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $100 and up

Effect: A prop is shown containing 2 houses, and a wooden cut out bunny. The bunny is placed into his house on the right and told to stay there. Comic by-play ensues as the performer tilts the house causing the bunny to slide through the visible pathway to the left house. When the kids now point out that the bunny is now in the left house, the magician tilts the houses back again causing the bunny to slide back to the right and looks in the left house to see the bunny gone. The bunny slides back and forth and back and forth even peeping out the side of the left house to the joy of the children. Finally, the magician gets frustrated and opens all the doors to all the houses showing that the bunny has vanished completely and re-appears in a place of the magicians choosing.

Performance Time: This is one of those tricks that can be stretched depending on the audience.

Reset Time: Less than 30 seconds

Angles:

Quality:
I have seen this trick in a number of different forms, by a number of different manufacturers. Some are of extremely high quality, some are of dubious quality. I suggest you handle the object before you purchase. Or, have extreme confidence in whoever you are ordering from.

Dr. Mitch: In my opinion this is a good strong, sucker kid trick. This is one of those tricks that is not so much magic, as entertainment. The magician has to know how to work the crowd in order to get the reaction from this trick. If the magician cannot work his audience, he will not get the reaction desired. I have seen this trick bomb big time, but I have also seen it, performed correctly, bring the house down. Again, it depends upon the magician. I have seen many versions of this trick, some that don't use bunnies, some that use other characters. Find one that is well made and is cute and that will fit the contour of your act. I have a "blue cookie eating" creature as mine and he brings the house down when I make him re-appear at the end. I have seen dragons, teddy bears etc. find one that is good for you.

Mike Maione: When I first started doing kiddy shows, I didn't want to go for the $100+ this trick cost. Also, it didn't make any sense to me, there's no magic here. Now, having performed this trick countless times, I know why they say it 'kills kids'. With Run Rabbit Run, you'll have them hooting and hollering for as long as you like. Its a great prop for the under eight set. Don't use it on older audiences though. Like the other classic kiddy stuff the presentation instructions that come with the trick are only the starting point. You'll need some silly antics to make this play. Here's a word of caution. It's a bit on the big size. If you like to travel light, you'll wind up leaving this prop home.
