Metal Appearing Cane

Type: Stage, Parlor

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $50 - $100

Effect: The magician pulls a large silk handkerchief from his pocket and instantly the handkerchief has vanished to be replaced by a black and white gentleman's walking stick (the cane).

Performance Time: This is a QUICKIE, a flash production of a walking stick.

Reset Time: 30 seconds

Angles:

Quality: Most of these products are spring steel and extremely durable. HINT: a little lube now and then assures quick opening. WARNING: these may rust.

Dr. Mitch: In my opinion they should rename this effect APPEARING METAL TUBE, because that is what it looks like. Viola, I'm holding a 3 foot length of pipe. I don't know why anybody would interpret this as a cane. I have seen a number of these by different manufacturers...and try as they might to disguise it...it ALWAYS winds up looking like a pipe. WARNING: Get real familiar with the product or you WILL cut yourself. Also, make sure it is extremely clean and oil free before attaching your silk. Finally, make sure you hang on to it. I have seen one shoot off stage and into the audience.

Mike Maione: I prefer these canes, especially the German made version, to the plastic Fantasio cane. I think it looks more like a cane because it doesn't bow easily when extended. Mitch is right about hurting yourself if you don't handle it properly. When this baby opens it's like a torpedo....don't get in its way.

If you plan to incorporate an appearing cane into your act and can afford it, get the metal version. I think it's worth the extra beans.
