Hot Rod, Crystal Clear Hot Rod

Type: Walk-around

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $5.99

Effect: A plastic bar, studded with six different colored gems. The spectator is given a "free" choice of any color. The rod is shown to have the different colors on both sides and with a pass of his hand the magician changes all the gems to the spectators color.

Performance Time: About 3 minutes

Reset Time: None

Angles:

Quality: This is an well made product, on occasion, a gem will pop out, this is nothing that a little Krazy Glue cant fix.

Dr. Mitch: This is a powerful trick. If it is done smoothly. The "move" needed to show both sides or to change the colors should be able to be performed without looking rushed. I see a lot of beginners trying to rush the move...avoid this trap. One major drawback is, that this trick can only be performed once. And, to hand out the prop afterwards, a switch must be made. They do sell a dummy that may be handed out. Unfortunately, it costs as much as the original. Still, I like it.

Mike Maione: If you know the paddle move you know how this trick works. But, as simple as it is, it's still very powerful. A hot rod was one of the very first tricks I ever bought. I still remember the impact seeing those jewels change color had on me. It was real magic. Contrary to what Dr. Mitch says, you can hand it out without making a switch. You just have to adjust your patter. I do it all the time.
