Fraidy Cat Rabbit

Type: Kids, Parlor, Stage

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $40 - $90

Effect: The performer shows a little stand with two doors and upon opening the doors, reveals a picture of a rabbit. He goes on to tell the children that the rabbit is very shy and scared and he shuts the door to the holder. The magician and the children decide to play a trick on the rabbit by shouting "BOO." As the children shout "BOO" the magician obviously turns the holder around and opens the door on the other side revealing a picture of a scared rabbit. The magician then tells the children to say soothing words to the rabbit as he obviously turns the holder around again, opening the door and revealing the happy rabbit again. This goes on back and forth until the children obviously realize the magician is simply turning the holder around. Some comic by-play ensues and the rabbit is removed from the holder. More comic by-play ensues and when the children demand to see the back of the picture of the happy rabbit. When the picture of the happy rabbit is finally turned around, it reveals the backside of a bunny and not the picture of the scared rabbit as the children expected.

Performance Time: This is one of those tricks that you can extend as long as your crowd will let you.

Reset Time: less than 30 seconds

Angles:

Quality: I have seen this trick in a number of different forms, by a number of different manufacturers. Some are of extremely high quality, some are of dubious quality. I suggest you handle the object before you purchase. Or, have extreme confidence in whoever you are ordering from.

Dr. Mitch: In my opinion this is a good strong, sucker kid trick. I used to use another similar trick in my kid show called Hippity Hop Rabbits until I bought this trick. I find this trick to play just as large a Hippity Hop Rabbits, but to be much less cumbersome to the tune of one piece of apparatus. While performing my show, I like to travel light. Why carry two boxes if you can carry one and get the same effect? This is one of those tricks that is not so much magic, as entertainment. The magician has to know how to work the crowd in order to get the reaction from this trick. If the magician cannot work his audience, he will not get the reaction desired. I have seen this trick bomb big time, but I have also seen it, performed correctly, bring the house down. Again, it depends upon the magician.

Mike Maione: This is one of those tried and true kid's show goodies. Along with Run-Rabbit-Run, Forgetful Fredie, Hippity Hop Rabbits and a few others this is great entertainment for kiddy shows. If you do kid's shows (Who doesn't?) then get this or Hippity Hop Rabbits. You won't regret it.
