Color Monte

Type: Close-up, Walk-around

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $10 - $15

Effect: The magician leads the spectators through a story of an unusual game of three card monte he once played. The gambler had used colored cards red and blue. And the magician had to keep betting on the location of "the money card". The magician loses more and more money until the big final "double or nothing bet". At the end of which there is a surprise that will knock your socks off....(or empty your pockets). And, OH YES...it is totally examinable at the end !!!!

Performance Time: Usually about 3 minutes...but Dr. Mitch had to perform the entire routine for Channel 12 in 45 seconds !!!!!

Reset Time: none

Angles:

Quality: OK..We have seen two versions of this packet trick. One is poorly made with a bad silk screen job on the cards (obviously a knock off version). The other is a quality product with foil embossed images. Know what you're buying.

Dr. Mitch: Well...this is one of those tricks that I have to keep buying over and over again. WHY? BECAUSE I USE IT THAT MUCH! I loved it when it first came out...and I've loved it ever since. This is the MUST USE product for trade show magicians!!!!! For casual close up it is a stunner. For beginners...this is NOT self-working. It takes some work but once you have the moves down...its beautiful. For NON-beginners...learn to pinky buckle, it makes the handling so clean. Try to be casual with the cards...and avoid awkward or unusual moves.

Mike Maione: This is a great packet trick and I think it is relatively easy to perform. There are only two sleights and both are explained in a straightforward, very understandable way. I remember when I first got it how very impressed I was with the clarity and brevity of the instructions. All magic instruction writers should be required to make their instructions as clear and concise.

The good doctor is right-on in his review. It's a great trick for lots of good reasons...the patter, while a little silly works well, the trick resets instantly and packs a big wallop. What's really great about this trick is as you perform it, you know the spectator is trying and perhaps succeeding at figuring out how your are doing what you are doing i.e. showing that the money card is never where it is expected to be. But, when the climatic last card is shown, he is so blown away that he's completely lost. Get it.
