Candle Through Arm

Type: Parlor, Stage

Skill Level:

Retail Price: $30 - $40

Effect: The performer shows a metal tube. He explains that there is a hole through the middle of the tube through which he thrusts a white candle. He shows the end of the tube through which you can see the white candle passing through and coming out the top. The performer removes the white candle and sticks his arm through the tube. The performer then lights the candle and thrusts the candle through the tube, through his arm and out the top of the tube.

Performance Time: About 2 minutes.

Reset Time: None

Angles:

Quality: This is a well made product, however some tubes comes with a dated looking paint job. I prefer gaily colored props. After the candle burns too low, a new candle may be purchased at any five and dime and will work just as well with this trick. The candle must be white.

Dr. Mitch: Usually I shy away from flame tricks for children's parties, not believing in mixing fire and children (you have a lot of crispy children that way!). However this is one I could see doing at a child's party, although I do not. The reason being that at a birthday party, candles are expected. I never light the candle myself. I have the birthday child's mother do it and then I have the birthday child up to blow out the candle and make a wish as we all sing "Happy Birthday."

Mike Maione: Maybe my arm is too fat but I can't seem to fit my arm into the tube and conceal the gimmick in a way that makes the illusion look convincing. Hence, the trick isn't for me, but heck I've seen others perform it real well.
